Statement as of 2009. gada 02. decembris plkst.04:10 ... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from noon EST today through this evening... The Flash Flood Watch continues for * a portion of central North Carolina... including the following areas... Alamance... Anson... Davidson... Forsyth... Guilford... Montgomery... Randolph... Richmond and Stanly. * From noon EST today through this evening * a powerful storm system developing over the Gulf Coast will move northeastward through the lower Mississippi and Tennessee valleys today and tonight. Widespread rain will surge northward over the area this morning... becoming heavier during the afternoon and evening hours... before tapering off by Thursday morning. Storm total rainfall amounts over two inches are likely over the western Piedmont... with locally higher totals possible. * Rainfall over two inches may produce rapid flooding... especially in poor drainage areas... and may cause rapid rises on area creeks and rivers. In particular... Buffalo Creek and Abbotts Creek may rise rapidly leading to flooding in surrounding areas. High water is also possible in urban areas... and in those areas that typically experience flooding during heavy rain. The risk of flooding is enhanced with this storm system due to the recent rains and resulting wet soil... and due to fallen leaves which could clog drains. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts... and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued. |
